A mid-face lift restores youthful vitality to the area of the face between the lower eyelids and the mouth, lifting the cheeks and smoothing smile lines to achieve a natural rejuvenated look without the need to undergo a full facelift. Midface lifts are ideal for reducing puffiness under the eyes, improving the contour of the upper cheeks, and correcting nasolabial folds. Incisions are small and hidden in the eyelids or in the mouth. Many patients over 45 choose to combine a midface lift with blepharoplasty or a browlift to rejuvenate the area around the eyes.
The Procedure
During a mid-face lift, Dr. Funt makes small incisions above the ear and sometimes under the upper lip. The soft tissues of the cheek are then separated from the cheekbone lifted towards the eye and ear, and fixed in place. The tissues naturally reattach to the bone in this new youthful position within about 30-60 days. The procedure can be performed with general anesthesia or a combination of local anesthesia and sedation.
Dr. Funt uses the ENDOTINE Midface device instead of non-absorbable sutures in mid-face lifts, lowering the risk of skin irregularities, dimpling and swelling and reducing procedure time. Once implanted, the device holds the lifted tissues in place as they complete the process of reattaching to the cheekbones. The device is then absorbed into the body until it is completely dissolved.
Recovery
Most patients return home on the day of the procedure and are ready to go back to work or normal activities in two weeks. Temporary bruising and swelling is normal after a mid-face lift and should fade completely within a few weeks. Sleeping with the head elevated and using cold compresses will reduce swelling and discomfort over the first few days. Some patients can feel the ENDOTINE device under the cheek and the area may be sensitive, but this feeling will fade as the device is absorbed into the body.
