Radiesse® is an injectable treatment that can restore lost volume, soften deeper facial folds, and support a firmer, more defined appearance. Rather than relying only on immediate filling, its calcium hydroxylapatite formula also works within the treated tissue as the product gradually breaks down. At Funt Aesthetics, Dr. David K. Funt brings extensive experience with facial anatomy, dermal fillers, and advanced injectable techniques to each treatment plan.
Radiesse can be used when age-related volume changes or deeper creases begin to affect facial contours. The amount and placement of the product are customized to the patient’s anatomy so enhancement remains balanced with the surrounding features.
What Is Radiesse® Made Of?
Radiesse is composed of calcium hydroxylapatite, or CaHA, microspheres suspended in a water-based gel. Calcium hydroxylapatite is a biocompatible material with mineral components similar to those naturally found in the body.
The gel provides immediate volume after injection, while the CaHA microspheres support collagen production within the treated area. Over time, the product is gradually absorbed by the body.
What Can Radiesse® Treat?
Radiesse is especially useful for areas where deeper support and contour are needed. It is FDA-approved for the correction of moderate-to-severe facial wrinkles and folds, including nasolabial folds. Radiesse is also approved to restore volume loss in the backs of the hands, while Radiesse (+) has an indication for improving moderate-to-severe loss of jawline contour in adults over 21.
Depending on the patient and treatment plan, Radiesse may be considered for concerns such as:
-
Nasolabial folds between the nose and mouth
-
Deeper facial folds and creases
-
Loss of lower-face definition
-
Reduced jawline contour
-
Age-related volume loss in the hands
Dr. Funt evaluates the treatment area carefully before determining whether Radiesse or another injectable is better suited to the desired result.
What Happens During a Radiesse® Treatment?
Before treatment, the area is cleaned, and the planned injection points are identified. Radiesse is then placed using a fine needle or cannula, depending on the depth and type of correction needed.
Treatment is generally completed during an office visit, and most patients can return to their usual routine soon afterward. Temporary swelling, redness, bruising, tenderness, or itching can occur around the injection sites. Serious complications from dermal fillers are uncommon but possible, which makes detailed knowledge of facial anatomy and injection technique especially important.
A follow-up visit may be recommended to evaluate the result and determine whether additional treatment would be beneficial.
When Will Radiesse® Results Appear?
Volume improvement can be visible immediately after treatment because the gel carrier provides support as soon as it is injected. The appearance may continue to evolve as initial swelling resolves and collagen develops within the treated tissue.
The duration of improvement varies based on the area treated, amount of product used, metabolism, and other individual factors. Radiesse provides long-lasting but non-permanent augmentation, so maintenance treatment may eventually be desired.
Why Choose Funt Aesthetics for Radiesse®?
Radiesse requires an injector to think beyond individual wrinkles and consider the deeper structure supporting the face. Dr. David K. Funt has spent much of his career studying, teaching, and lecturing on facial anatomy and injectable techniques. He is a national instructor for Merz USA, the company associated with Radiesse, and has extensive experience educating medical professionals about fillers, neurotoxins, and the prevention and management of injectable complications.
Dr. Funt is also board-certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and has published and lectured nationally and internationally on aesthetic medicine. This combination of anatomical knowledge and product-specific experience allows Radiesse treatment at Funt Aesthetics to focus on thoughtful placement, appropriate volume, and facial contours that look supported rather than overfilled.
