A facelift tightens or excises muscle, fat, and skin, producing a more youthful, rested appearance. The facelift procedure only addresses the lower two-thirds of the face. It is possible for Dr. Funt to combine a facelift with a brow lift, neck lift, and eyelid surgery.
If you are interested in reducing sagging in the facial area, a facelift may be the best way to address the problem. For many patients, the key issues corrected by facelift surgery include sagging jowls, loose neck skin, and fat accumulation under the chin (double chin). Facelifts work in essentially the same manner, although there are some variations in facelift techniques, depending upon the specific individual facial constructions, and the intended outcome of the facelift surgery.

Dr. Funt's goal is to achieve a natural result. You do not need to fear a "wind tunnel", "pulled lips" or other unnatural looks.

Your facelift surgery will be performed at our fully accredited Woodmere, New York surgery center. You will need to stay overnight at our surgical facility and you will have a private duty nurse with you.

After a facelift, bandages may be applied to the head and neck with the purpose of maintaining the area and keeping it stationary. The bandages are usually removed a day after the procedure.

After a facelift, many patients are astonished by the lack of pain there is after surgery. For several weeks, expect some swelling around the eyes, however, as the swelling goes away, you will begin to see the surgery's progress. Bending or lifting can extend swelling and is not suggested for three weeks after surgery. Running, cycling or exercises should not resume for three weeks. Driving is permissible when the swelling goes down and does not get in the way of your vision.

Is a facelift permanent?

Yes and no. Obviously, facelifts do not stop the aging process, so that as time goes by, the face will show signs of aging, such as jowls and loosening skin. On the other hand, the person who has facelift surgery will always appear more youthful than they would if they hadn't had the facelift surgery, even years later.

A mid-facelift restores youthful vitality to the area of the face between the lower eyelids and the mouth, lifting the cheeks and smoothing smile lines to achieve a natural rejuvenated look without the need to undergo a full facelift. A mid-facelift is ideal for reducing puffiness under the eyes, improving the contour of the upper cheeks, and correcting nasolabial folds. Incisions are small and hidden in the eyelids or in the mouth. Many patients over 45 choose to combine a midface lift with blepharoplasty or a browlift to rejuvenate the area around the eyes.

The Procedure

During a mid-facelift, Dr. Funt makes small incisions above the ear and sometimes under the upper lip. The soft tissues of the cheek are then separated from the cheekbone, lifted towards the eye and ear, and fixed in place. The tissues naturally reattach to the bone in this new youthful position within about 30-60 days. The procedure can be performed with general anesthesia or a combination of local anesthesia and sedation.

Dr. Funt uses the endotine midface device instead of non-absorbable sutures in mid-facelifts, lowering the risk of skin irregularities, dimpling and swelling and reducing procedure time. Once implanted, the device holds the lifted tissues in place as they complete the process of reattaching to the cheekbones. The device is then absorbed into the body until it is completely dissolved.

Most patients return home on the day of the procedure and are ready to go back to work or normal activities in two weeks. Temporary bruising and swelling is normal after a mid-facelift and should fade completely within a few weeks. Sleeping with the head elevated and using cold compresses will reduce swelling and discomfort over the first few days. Some patients can feel the endotine device under the cheek and the area may be sensitive, but this feeling will fade as the device is absorbed into the body.
